A Fireplace, Restored

Some rooms ask to be brought back to themselves. This fireplace was one of them — a complete DIY, and a true labor of love.

The goal was to return a little Spanish charm to the house: an arched firebox laid in slim brick, a plaster surround kept soft and simple, the whole thing anchored by a quiet landscape and a pair of brass sconces. It is the kind of project measured in weekends and patience — and the kind that changes how an entire room feels once the afternoon light finds it.

A reminder that the most beautiful homes aren’t bought so much as restored: one arch, one coat of plaster, one evening fire at a time.
